A series of real and visionary combinations of beings, animals and plants, recalling the imagery of ancient bestiaries from around the world. The artist referred, in particular, to the text A Chinese Bestiary: Strange Creatures from the Guideways Through Mountains and Seas, which analyzes the original narrative composed allegedly in a period from the fourth to the first century before Christ: a sacred geography of the mythology of ancient China traversed and narrated by the noble travelers who were the protagonists. Resuming the forms made for an earlier project carried out in China, Losi “theorized” animals with improbable forms and other plausible ones; a set of combined fantasies, between the forms of the living and the whole matter, building a fantastic mythology that coexists with the real forms of some fossils.
Presented initially (and partially) in 2016 under the title About Proximity, Weaving & We, Second Hangzhou Triennial of Fiber Art, Hangzhou, China, 2016.
The most recent version of the enriched installation was displayed on the occasion of the solo exhibition Tra le infinite combinazioni possibili, within the framework of “Arte in Fabbrica”, at Gori Tessuti (Calenzano, Florence), curated by Adriana Polveroni.
